Wheelers for the Wounded Charity Trail Run

The weekend of June 21st and 22nd there will be a Wheelers for the Wounded charity trail run. Jason (founder of WFTW) will be in town on leave from Iraq so let's show him what FL can do for such a great cause. The event will kick off Saturday with a workday in the Ocala forest marking trails. The work we will be doing is sponsored by Hummer via their Recreation Rescue program with Tread Lightly! I do not have details yet but both Hummer and Tread Lightly! will have representatives there for at least the work day and since this project directly effects all of us lets give them a big showing so they can see what FL wheelers are all about. After a fun workday we will have dinner and a raffle at the Hard Rock camping area. Dinner will be provided and raffle tickets (prizes to be announced) will be available for purchase any time prior to the drawing.

Sunday we will be wheeling HardRock and if you have not been there, I think you will love it. The owners of HardRock have generously given us a discount for this event and admission for Sunday will be only $15 per vehicle.

There are two camping options at HardRock, hook-ups for $20/day or primitive for $10/day. Facilities include indoor bathrooms with showers. Jason and I are planning on arriving sometime Friday afternoon or evening and everyone is welcome to do so as well.

Please post here or send me a message if you are planning on attending with the number of people in your party (adults and kids), camping or not, and when you plan to arrive so that we have plenty of camping space and food for Saturday's dinner. Looking forward to seeing all of you there for this great cause.

I'm the contact person for the Pirates Of Moor Jeep & 4x4 Club of Central Florida. Our group just learned of this event and we are presently trying to get a head count. Possibly 8 rigs, 0 camping, some may stay in a local motel after dinner at hardrock. Will update our status soon.

2 from TrailrideTV will be attending.  We will only be bringing a rental car and most likely won't be taking it on the rocks Grin

I think we will play it safe friday and saturday and get a hotel room...gotta recharge batteries and have a safe dry place for electronics.  We may camp last minute if the weather is good and we can find some electricity (and there is room), but for now lets plan on us staying indoors...

Do you think Hard Rock will let us in for free since we will only be filming the action?  It will be a good promo for their park...and I'd be happy to share some footage with them.  I know its not a lot of $$, but I'm traveling from NW Illlinois for this event and funding the whole thing myself...every little bit helps.

Looking forward to it!  See you Friday afternoon at the latest.

Capnmorgan...welcome to the program. Smiley  I'm looking forward to hitting some trails with you and your crew.  I checked out your website and liked what I saw.  The pirate theme is cool and from the video, I see you all have some nice rigs.  I liked the shirts you had on Cafe Press...thinking of getting the white golf shirt.

Tufrthnails...glad you all in Lakeland will be joining us as well.  I'm sure you all are no strangers to mud and I'm hoping there will be some of that for us to play in. Grin

TrailrideTV...since you won't be wheeling and won't be camping, I doubt there will be a charge for you.  The entry price is per rig, not per person, and you don't have a wheelable rig.  But, I'm sure Mark will be able to find out for sure.  He's done a great job by coordinating this with HardRock and getting the entry price down to $15.

That's great to hear Cap'n, let me know if you have any questions Cool

Rocks? You haven't been to FL for a while have you Wink

They do have a rock garden there though Grin

I will have power at my campsite if you need it for charging batteries so don't worry about that. Since you will be riding along there isn't a charge for you to come in the park, they only charge per vehicle. I will pass on to the owner about sharing some footage, I am sure he would appreciate that. They are stepping up for us and I would like to return the favor in any way possible.

I'm sure you all are no strangers to mud and I'm hoping there will be some of that for us to play in. Grin
There is only one place that really gets muddy but you can play there for a while if you want. Who know, with us getting into the rainy season it could be a whole new ballgame Smiley

FYI, since it seems a rep from Hummer/GM is going to be attending (unless Treadlightly told me wrong) the FL4WDA (Florida Four Wheel Drive Association) will be starting ground work on our Four Wheel Drive Route in the Ocala National Forest.  Hummer has donated funds to assist getting the trail signed and there is likely to be a "Meet and Greet" on Saturday morning.

http://www.fl4wda.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1210088225/4#4

Quick recap on all the gory details: FL4WDA submitted a proposed route in the ONF during a scoping period, after revisions and meetings it was passed into a Final Rule and once we get it signed we can look forward to designating some natural obstacles along the trail.

As jasoncj7 mentioned there have been some changes to the schedule. I have updated the original post to reflect these changes but the gist is we are going to have a workday in the forest on Saturday and wheel HardRock on Sunday. There was some juggling going on to move the workday from November to June to coordinate with the WFTW event as we wanted to get the word out. This project sponsored by Hummer through the Recreation Rescue program with Tread Lightly! directly effects all of us so please bring as many people as possible. Don't have the details yet but both Hummer and Tread Lightly! will have representatives there for at least the work day, lets show them what FL wheelers are all about Cool

noted the changes in the plans.  No problem for us...we're going to be in FL all weekend anyway.

I've been out of the loop over the weekend and just heard about the fires in FL...we wish all the best for those affected.

Low priority request>>>any chance we can get a cherry picker or boom truck of some sort at the Hard Rock park on sunday?  We want to get lots of pretty pictures of the wftw JK while its still nice and sparkly clean Grin

TrailrideTV could even pay for the rental/gas for the boom truck if you can send along the contact info...

We finally have our first few test vids up on our site, and more to come soon at www.TrailrideTV.com

See you soon

I like the look of the new site Andy...and the videos.  Will be good to meet you in Florida.

Not sure about the boom truck thing...maybe someone closer to Ocala can check on that...I wouldn't even know what company to check with.  Hmmm...maybe you can check with Hard Rock and see if they have a bulldozer (some places do in case someone gets REALLY stuck and has to be extracted).  Might then be able to climb up on that to get a shot from overhead if that's what you're looking for.  Or, depending on your climbing skills, you could go up in a tree. Smiley

Actually, now that I think about it, it would be nice to have something that could take you up high and we could have some sort of group photo of everyone in attendance.

thanks for the comment on the new site...right now I'm doing everything myself and I only know enough about graphic design and web development to get by.  Starting with the wftw promo vids, I'll be getting my design team involved.

As far as the boom truck or some thing to get me in the air...I'll check with Hard Rock, but if anyone else has any ideas, please pass them along.  Like I said before, this is low priority, so don't mess with this if you have more important logistics on your to-do list...

And yes, I've been known to climb a tree or two.  My Dad gave me the nickname 'Bird' when I was a kid because I'd always be sitting in the weeping willow tree next our garage when he came home from work.  But I'm a lot older and wider these days Roll Eyes

See you soon in FL

Is hard rock going to allow us to camp anywhere or is it going to be considered full when the designated campsites are gone?   Question came up from when I posted info on our site.
